Bond release in WA from 2026

Since 28 March 2026, anyone on the tenancy agreement can apply to have the bond released after the tenancy ends.

The other parties are sent a notice and usually have 14 days to agree or dispute. If someone doesn't respond, the application is automatically referred for a decision.

Landlord claims must be put into categories, such as rent owing, cleaning, repairing damage, or pet fumigation.

Claims can't be more than the bond held. A pet bond can only be used for pet damage or fumigation, and is capped at $350.

Your notice states the exact date to respond by. Always use the date on your notice.
